Apple and LG may unveil smart home doorbell, lock, and thermostat

A Bloomberg report says Apple's October 13 event will include smart home products made with LG, such as a doorbell, lock, thermostat, and security cameras. Regulatory filings and leaks point to details for an LG smart deadbolt, thermostat, and temperature sensor. The accessories may not reach customers for several months because development has lagged behind Apple's own devices.
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that Apple's Oct. 13 event may feature LG-made smart-home gear: a doorbell, lock, thermostat, and security cameras. Regulatory paperwork reportedly lists names, specs, features, and drawings, though it does not name Apple. A leaker adds that the deadbolt has a rotating keypad and settings for sounds, lights, and alarms, while the thermostat offers display and language options and the sensor measures temperature and humidity.
Apple has backed HomeKit since 2014, letting third-party devices work with its Home system and iPhone or iPad. The LG items would carry LG branding, with LG handling production and support, while Apple-branded accessories are said to remain in development. New Apple TV and HomePod mini are also expected around then.
If these LG-branded accessories arrive, Apple users may find it easier to assemble a more coherent smart home, potentially reducing setup friction and app switching. LG could gain visibility among Apple loyalists, while rival device makers may face pressure to match tighter integration. Privacy and security expectations could rise too, since doorbells, locks, cameras, and thermostats touch daily routines and personal data. Yet delays and uncertain quality may temper adoption.
