Robbie Bennett of the War on Drugs Announces Winter Solo Releases

Robbie Bennett, keyboardist for the War on Drugs, will release two solo albums, Steloken and Circulation, on December 11 through American Dreams. He has shared “Sister” and “The Light on Your Face” from the projects. The records follow his 2020 solo debut Permanent World and were made using MIDI from an acoustic player piano fed into an Oberheim OB-X8 synthesizer.
Robbie Bennett, who plays keyboards in the War on Drugs, will issue two solo collections, Steloken and Circulation, on December 11 through American Dreams. Together they contain 29 tracks, with Steloken holding 17 and Circulation 12. He has previewed “Sister” from the former and “The Light on Your Face” from the latter.
The projects follow his 2020 debut Permanent World. Bennett generated material by routing MIDI from an acoustic player piano into an Oberheim OB-X8, letting both instruments sound together, then added Fender Rhodes, vocoder, and Soma Terra textures. He described wanting the music to evoke exploring an unknown place without retracing one’s path.
