Haverford Professor Charged Over Antisemitic Online Threats
A Haverford College religion professor was arrested and charged with online harassment and intimidation. The indictment alleges he sent about 50 antisemitic messages to a victim using multiple X accounts between October 2025 and May 2026. The college placed him on administrative leave and barred him from campus while the criminal case proceeds.
Guangtian Ha, who teaches religion at Haverford College in Pennsylvania, was arrested and accused of online harassment and intimidation. A Sept. 30 indictment in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania alleges that from about Oct. 9, 2025, to May 20, 2026, he sent roughly 50 messages to one victim via at least four X accounts, some containing threatening, antisemitic language.
Haverford President Wendy Raymond said Ha was on sabbatical and not teaching this academic year. The college has put him on leave from his duties and prohibited him from campus. The FBI, Haverford Township Police Department, and Campus Safety helped investigate, and he is in pretrial detention awaiting a hearing.
The case may deepen concerns among Jewish students and faculty about safety and online targeting on campuses. It could also intensify debates over how colleges respond to harassment allegations while criminal proceedings continue, affecting the accused, the complainant, and the wider Haverford community. Because details remain allegations, observers may focus on due process and the distinction between protected speech and illegal threats.
