OnePlus 16 Will Introduce BOE's Fourth-Gen Oriental Display and 185Hz Refresh Rate

OnePlus has confirmed that its upcoming OnePlus 16 will be the first phone to use BOE's fourth-generation Oriental Screen. The display is expected to support a 185Hz maximum refresh rate and a global 165Hz mode. OnePlus and BOE plan to detail the technology at an October 9 event.
OnePlus China President Li Jie has said the company and BOE will host a technology briefing on October 9 at 10 a.m. to explain the fourth-generation Oriental Screen. The OnePlus 16 is set to be the first handset to carry it.
The panel follows the third-generation version used in the OnePlus 15, which paired 1.5K resolution with 165Hz. Reports point to a 185Hz peak and a 165Hz mode across the system. Earlier ultra-high-refresh OLEDs often used lower 1080p resolutions; OnePlus and BOE reportedly advanced circuitry, driving methods, algorithms, and X3 luminous materials.
For everyday phone users, especially those who scroll, browse, and read on mobile, a 165Hz global mode and 185Hz peak could make motion feel smoother, though real gains may depend on software and battery trade-offs. Display enthusiasts and mobile gamers may welcome the push, while manufacturers could face pressure to match such specs. Wider adoption may also influence how apps and interfaces are optimized, but the practical benefit for casual users remains uncertain.
