ESRB Listings Hint at Native PS5 and Xbox Series Versions for Mafia 2 and Mafia 3

Fresh ESRB ratings indicate that Mafia 2 and Mafia 3 may receive native releases for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. These listings suggest the games will be rebuilt for modern consoles, potentially offering better graphics and performance than their backward-compatible versions. 2K has not yet made a formal announcement.
New ESRB entries point to native current-gen builds of Mafia 2 and Mafia 3, rated Mature 17+ for violence, nudity, and strong language. Publisher 2K has not yet confirmed them publicly. The games’ earlier Definitive Editions already run on PS4 and Xbox One, and remain playable through backward compatibility.
By contrast, Mafia: Definitive Edition arrived in 2020 as a full remake of the 2002 original, rebuilding Lost Heaven. 2K’s recent Mafia: The Omerta Collection bundled existing Definitive Editions with Mafia: The Old Country Definitive Edition and added a current-gen patch for that remake, suggesting similar technical updates may follow.
If these upgrades arrive, players on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S could revisit Mafia 2 and Mafia 3 with smoother performance and shorter load times. That may appeal to longtime fans and newcomers drawn by the series’ recent collection. It could also encourage publishers to keep older titles available natively on current hardware, though without an official 2K announcement, the practical effect remains uncertain.
