American to build its biggest Admirals Club at Charlotte airport

American Airlines plans to open its largest Admirals Club at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, with more than 40,000 square feet on the atrium mezzanine. Construction starts this year, and existing lounges will stay open during the work. The design will reflect Charlotte's trees and textile history and include shower suites, bars, and areas for dining, working, and resting.
American Airlines will place its largest Admirals Club at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The lounge is planned for the atrium mezzanine and will exceed 40,000 square feet when finished. Work is scheduled to begin this year. Travelers will still have access to existing lounges during construction, including Provisions near Gate A1 and clubs in Concourses B and C/D.
The airline previously said it would add a first Flagship lounge at CLT. Charlotte is American’s second-largest hub, linking passengers to over 180 destinations across 27 countries with more than 650 peak-day flights. The new club’s interior will nod to the city’s tree canopy and textile past, with shower suites, bars, serveries, and separate spaces for dining, work, and rest.
The expanded lounge could improve comfort for premium travelers and frequent flyers passing through Charlotte, while possibly easing crowding in existing clubs during peak periods. Airport workers, concession staff, and other passengers may see indirect effects as traffic and spending patterns shift. If the project signals continued investment in hub amenities, it may raise expectations for airport lounges more broadly, though benefits likely remain concentrated among eligible travelers and those willing to pay for access.
