iPad Mini 8 Rumored to Use 60Hz OLED Rather Than ProMotion

A tipster says the upcoming iPad mini 8 will use a 60Hz LTPS OLED display instead of a 120Hz ProMotion panel. The same account previously reported that Apple's next small tablet would have a 60Hz OLED screen. Other rumored features include an A20 Pro chip, a landscape-oriented FaceTime camera, redesigned speakers, and water resistance, with an October launch expected.
The claim comes from a Korean Naver blog account called yeux1122, which says manufacturing allocations indicate a 60Hz LTPS OLED instead of a 120Hz screen. That same tipster reportedly stated in July that Apple's next compact tablet would carry an LTPS hybrid OLED running at 60Hz.
By contrast, Apple's iPad Pro line uses LTPO OLED technology that can move between 10Hz and 120Hz. LTPS panels usually have fixed refresh rates and tend to be dimmer. The iPad mini 7 currently uses a 60Hz LCD. Other rumored additions include an A20 Pro chip, a landscape-oriented FaceTime camera, redesigned speakers, and water resistance.
If accurate, the 60Hz OLED choice may disappoint small-tablet buyers who hoped for smoother scrolling and drawing. It could help Apple position the iPad mini below the iPad Pro, affecting students, commuters, and casual gamers who prioritize portability over high refresh rates. Rumored water resistance and a landscape camera may broaden appeal for note-taking and video calls, though the overall impact is likely limited to a niche audience.
