SpaceX's Grok Bot to Use Rival AI Models, Boosting Growth Outlook

Elon Musk said SpaceX's Grok Bot will route tasks to whichever external AI model performs best, including Anthropic's Claude, Midjourney, and Suno. This could keep users on Grok Bot while Grok models improve, though paying outside providers adds costs and SpaceX had a negative operating margin in 2025. Analysts forecast SpaceX revenue rising from $45.08 billion in 2026 to $421.73 billion by 2030, an 836% increase.
Musk announced Wednesday that Grok Bot will choose among outside AI providers—Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5.5, Midjourney, Suno and others—based on which performs best for a given task. Digg founder Kevin Rose called it a smart way to keep users building on Grok Bot while Grok models improve. The same day, Grok Bot gained tools to scan, read and track activity on X.
SpaceX’s 2025 operating margin was -11.1%, and capital spending reached $20.9 billion. Analysts project revenue climbing from $45.08 billion in 2026 to $421.73 billion in 2030, an 836% gain. Starlink generated $11.4 billion in 2025, about 61% of total revenue, as subscribers rose from 4.4 million to 8.9 million.
This shift could affect everyday Grok Bot users, who may get stronger results without leaving the app, while rival AI providers might gain usage revenue and visibility. SpaceX may face higher variable costs and thinner margins, and its reliance on outside models could influence how AI capabilities are distributed and priced. If users stay within Grok Bot, X’s data and reach may become more central to AI competition, though questions about data handling and provider dependence may also grow.
