Asus external DVD burner drops below $40 in Amazon sale
The Asus ZenDrive is an external DVD writer designed for laptops and desktops that lack optical drives. It supports DVD and CD reading and writing, M-DISC archival media, and both USB-A and USB-C connections. Amazon has reduced the price to $37.88 from $44.99, a saving of about 16%.
The Asus ZenDrive is a compact external optical drive for laptops and desktops lacking built-in disc trays. It reads and writes DVDs at up to 8x and CDs at up to 24x, supports M-DISC archival media, and includes USB 2.0 and USB-C cables for Windows and Mac systems. Disc Encryption II and Nero BackItUp software are also listed.
Amazon has cut the price to $37.88 from $44.99, a $7.11 saving. That is below $40, though the drive once sold for $30 in 2021 and is unlikely to reach that level again. It does not read Blu-ray discs.
For households and small organizations with disc collections, this could make accessing legacy media easier without buying a new computer. It may also support personal archiving of photos and documents. However, because it lacks Blu-ray support, its broader impact may remain limited to DVD/CD users.
