Google sets December end date for Pixel Watch Safety Signal service

Google has announced that Safety Signal will stop working on Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3 LTE models on December 12. The feature allowed users to contact emergency contacts, run Safety Check, share emergency status, trigger Emergency SOS, and use Fall Detection without a cellular plan, as long as they had Google's Health Premium service. After the shutdown, owners will need a wireless plan to keep those capabilities or go without them.
Google will retire Safety Signal for LTE versions of the Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3 on December 12, 2026. The service had let owners reach emergency contacts, run Safety Check, share emergency status, trigger Emergency SOS, and use Fall Detection without a cellular subscription, provided they paid for Google Health Premium.
The underlying watch functions are not disappearing. What changes is the built-in connectivity that made them work independently. Users will need their own connection, such as a cellular plan or a phone tether. Google plans to notify affected users by email and a watch notification. Newer Pixel Watch 4 and Pixel Watch 5 models add satellite connectivity.
The shutdown could affect LTE Pixel Watch 2 and 3 owners who relied on Safety Signal without paying for service, especially those who value emergency features. Some may add cellular plans or tether to phones, increasing monthly costs or reducing independence. Others may forgo always-on safety tools. The change may also push some buyers toward newer watches with satellite connectivity, though that option depends on availability and individual needs.
