New Mexico has adjusted its campaign contribution limits for the 2027-2028 election cycles. Beginning January 1, 2027, donations from individuals, committees, corporations, and labor unions to candidates and committees will rise by $400 per election, moving from $6,200 to $6,600.
The limit for gubernatorial candidates will increase by $800 per election, from $12,400 to $13,200. Contributions to political party or legislative caucus committees will rise by $2,000 per election, from $31,000 to $33,000.
The higher caps could give candidates, parties, and legislative caucus committees more room to raise funds, potentially shaping how competitive races are financed. Donors—including individuals, corporations, unions, and committees—may reassess giving strategies. Because the limits apply per election, the change may influence when and where contributions are directed. Whether it affects electoral outcomes or public trust could depend on disclosure, enforcement, and how the additional funds are used.
