Trump Filing Shows Major Meta Stock and SpaceX Debt Purchases

A new financial disclosure shows President Donald Trump bought Meta stock worth $5 million to $25 million and SpaceX debt worth $1 million to $5 million. The SpaceX purchase came two days before he signed a national space transportation policy. The filing covered 517 securities transactions in August, with total purchases and sales estimated at $74 million to $273 million.
The August disclosure listed 517 securities trades, with purchases and sales together valued between about $74 million and $273 million. Meta was the largest single buy, dated Aug. 21, alongside $1 million–$5 million positions in AT&T, ConocoPhillips, Abbott Laboratories, Netflix, and Chevron.
Trump also sold $1 million–$5 million each of AMD and Church & Dwight and trimmed stakes in Boeing, Home Depot, Dell, Palo Alto Networks, and NVIDIA. SpaceX debt, bought Aug. 18, preceded an Aug. 20 space transportation memorandum seeking over 1,000 annual launches and reentries by 2030 and reduced regulatory barriers.
The disclosure may intensify public debate over how elected officials’ private holdings intersect with policy, potentially affecting investor confidence and trust in government decisions. Technology, energy, defense, and space-sector investors could watch for signals, while regulators and lawmakers may face pressure to clarify ethics rules. Because the White House says independent managers handle the portfolio, any societal effect may depend on whether voters and watchdogs view that safeguard as sufficient.
