Apple Reorganizes Leadership, Names New M&A Head

Apple CEO John Ternus is shifting leadership responsibilities, with Steve Smith taking over mergers and acquisitions and corporate development from Adrian Perica. Perica will continue to lead iCloud, Fitness+, and Apple News and will report to Eddy Cue, while Smith will report to CFO Kevan Parekh. Carson Oliver has been promoted to App Store vice president, and Cue is evaluating possible successors, with Perica and Oliver Schusser among the candidates.
Apple CEO John Ternus has adjusted several senior roles. Steve Smith now leads mergers and acquisitions and corporate development, taking over from Adrian Perica. That function returns under the finance division, with Smith reporting to CFO Kevan Parekh. Perica keeps oversight of iCloud, Fitness+, and Apple News and now reports to Eddy Cue.
Carson Oliver has been elevated to App Store vice president after running the store since Phil Schiller left that post in late August. Oliver reports to Cue. Cue is also reviewing possible successors, with Perica seen as a leading candidate and Apple Music head Oliver Schusser also considered. Apple's M&A team has handled acquisitions and arrangements, including the OpenAI-ChatGPT-Siri deal.
The reshuffle may affect app developers, Apple customers, and acquisition targets. A new M&A leader could alter which startups and technologies Apple pursues, potentially influencing available features and market opportunities. Changes atop the App Store and services could affect developer policies, subscription experiences, and how quickly new offerings reach users. Because Cue is weighing successors, future services strategy may remain uncertain in the near term.
