Vaultbreakers Demo Launches as Square Enix Collective Returns

BetaDwarf and Square Enix Collective have formed a publishing partnership for Vaultbreakers, a top-down action RPG built around extraction-style treasure runs. A free demo is now on Steam and offers as much as seven hours of play, either alone or with others. The news also marks Square Enix Collective's return as an initiative that supports independent developers.
The reveal arrived during the Triple-i Initiative showcase. BetaDwarf, a Danish team known for Forced, Forced: Showdown, and Minion Masters, is working with Square Enix Collective, which provides indie funding, investment, and publishing help while letting creators keep control.
The Steam demo includes part of the first map and an introductory quest. Players can pick Nymera, a ranged elf ranger, or Bjornir, an ice-focused durable warrior, then head toward an initial Vault and boss. It supports solo or co-op with two extra players, two PvE difficulties, and up to seven hours. The full release will add PvPvE and five heroes; three arrive in an October 15 Alpha playtest.
The return of Square Enix Collective could affect independent studios seeking funding and publishing backing, potentially giving smaller teams more visibility and stability. Players may benefit from more demos and co-op action RPGs, while the free Vaultbreakers trial could shape expectations around try-before-you-buy releases. Its success may influence how publishers approach indie partnerships, though the actual impact remains uncertain.
