Apple May Team With LG on a Broader Smart Home Lineup

Reports indicate Apple is considering a partnership with LG Electronics for a range of smart home products, potentially including doorbells, locks, thermostats, and security cameras. LG would likely handle manufacturing and support while Apple supplies software integration, though questions remain about how Apple Home and LG ThinQ would coexist. Apple is also expected to release a smart home hub, a new HomePod mini, and an updated Apple TV in mid-October.
The reported LG-branded set would cover entry, access, climate, and monitoring: video doorbells, smart locks, cameras, temperature sensors, and thermostats. Many are said to support Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Thread, and Matter, while a lock may use Ultra Wideband to unlock automatically as someone approaches. LG has filed related products with the FCC and UL Solutions, but those documents do not mention Apple; Gurman’s report provides that link. LG-branded devices are expected next year.
Apple has previously worked with Belkin and Logitech on branded accessories, and LG Display already supplies screens for Apple products. Neither company has sold this exact accessory lineup before. The main open question is how Apple Home and LG ThinQ would divide control, support, and user data.
If the partnership proceeds, households already using Apple devices could gain more cohesive smart-home options, while LG customers may see deeper Apple integration. Competing platforms could face pressure to improve interoperability, especially through Matter. Privacy and data control may become central concerns, since Apple Home and LG ThinQ could overlap. Consumers might benefit from easier setup and broader choice, but they may also face confusion over support, branding, and which ecosystem governs their devices.
