Xiaomi’s China launch adds a doorbell camera and indoor screen to its 5C lock. The 1-megapixel lens covers 160 degrees, while AI can flag people and blocked views. It also offers several unlock methods, self-locking, and two batteries. Presale starts at 999.6 yuan after subsidy, with a 1,176 yuan list price.
A 3.5-inch interior panel activates when the bell is pressed. Smartphone intercom supports altered voices and remote entry. Low-light color imaging uses fill lights, switching to monochrome in darkness. Recordings can remain available online for a three-day rolling period.
Devices like this may make home entry more convenient and give residents extra awareness of visitors, especially families with children or older adults. They could also raise privacy considerations for neighbours or visitors captured by wide-angle cameras and cloud recordings. Remote unlocking and alerts may change how households respond to callers, though effectiveness depends on installation, lighting, and user judgment.
