AT&T iPhone Duo preorders offer up to $1,200 in savings

AT&T will start taking preorders for Apple's first foldable iPhone on October 16. New and existing customers can get as much as $1,200 off with a qualifying trade-in, while switchers may receive up to $800 toward their current device balance. Online orders also come with $200 in savings per line, and the iPhone Duo launches on October 23.
AT&T revealed the iPhone Duo promotions on Oct. 9, with preorders beginning Oct. 16 and release on Oct. 23. Apple introduced the device at its "Surprise and Shine" event alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. The foldable starts at $1,999, higher than Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 at $1,899. At the time, Xfinity was the only other carrier with announced preorder deals.
AT&T's discounts include up to $1,200 for eligible trade-ins, up to $800 for switchers paying off a current device, and $200 per line for online orders. General Apple Store preorders open at 5:00 P.T. on Oct. 16. Other listed offers include Apple trade-in savings, T-Mobile preorders, Verizon activation-fee waivers, and Xfinity trade-in discounts.
The iPhone Duo's carrier promotions may shape how consumers view foldable affordability, especially early adopters and trade-in-dependent buyers. Higher upfront prices could make discounts and device buyout credits decisive for AT&T customers and switchers. Rival carriers and Samsung may feel pressure to match or adjust offers, potentially influencing upgrade timing and market expectations. For some households, monthly plan costs and trade-in terms could matter more than the headline savings, though actual effects remain uncertain.
