Ed Sheeran adds replacement support acts for Loop tour dates

Ed Sheeran has named Isaac Slade and Brooks Rosser as new support acts for upcoming US dates on his Loop tour. The change follows Macklemore's removal from the tour after his public call for a free Palestine and criticism from figures including Robert Kraft. Several artists and Sheeran's band members had shown solidarity with Macklemore, while Sheeran later said he was horrified by the conflict and the pain on both sides, and apologized for mistakes.
Isaac Slade, former The Fray frontman, will open US Loop shows in Indianapolis on October 10, Charlotte October 17, Arlington October 24, and Tampa November 7. He previously appeared in Atlanta on October 3. Brooks Rosser, an American Idol contestant, also joins the Indianapolis date, his first show since the program.
Macklemore was removed after his onstage “free Palestine” remarks drew criticism from Robert Kraft, Pink, and the Israeli American Council. Some artists and Sheeran’s band members supported Macklemore or withdrew. Sheeran said he was appalled by the conflict and later apologized for mistakes. Macklemore gave $1m in tour earnings to Palestinian-support groups and announced a sold-out Free Palestine Tour. Sheeran’s Latin American dates have no announced openers.
This episode could shape how touring artists, venues, and sponsors weigh onstage political statements, potentially affecting booking decisions and audience expectations. Fans may experience concerts as more politically charged, while support acts and crew could face uncertainty when controversies arise. The dispute may also amplify public debate about protest, speech, and commercial pressure in entertainment, with listeners and local communities responding differently. Its longer-term impact likely depends on whether similar cancellations or solidarity gestures continue.
