Tesla Renames Full Self-Driving to Assisted Driving in Europe

Tesla has renamed its Full Self-Driving software to 'Tesla Assisted Driving' on several European websites. The change follows discussions with Germany's transport ministry, which considered the original name misleading because the system still requires driver attention. The rebranding aims to address regulatory concerns as Tesla seeks broader approval in the European Union.
Tesla's European sites in Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, and Slovakia now use "Tesla Assisted Driving," while its U.S. site keeps "Full Self-Driving (Supervised)." The shift followed talks with Germany's transport ministry, which viewed the earlier label as misleading because the system does not complete driving tasks alone. Drivers must still stay attentive and ready to intervene.
The software assists with steering, braking, and acceleration. Eight EU nations already allow it, and Slovakia may become the ninth. An EU-wide vote was delayed from October to at least December, with France conducting more tests. Swedish and Italian officials also questioned marketing claims.
The rebranding may shape how European drivers and buyers interpret automated features, potentially lowering confusion about what the software can do. Tesla owners and regulators could see effects on trust, oversight, and adoption timelines. If approval expands, more consumers may encounter assisted-driving tools; if scrutiny continues, expectations and market access may remain constrained. The outcome could influence how other automakers describe similar systems across Europe.
