Oracle to buy most power from Scout's 300 MW Texas wind farm
Scout Clean Energy has signed a virtual power purchase agreement with Oracle covering most of the output from its 300 MW Ranchero wind farm in Crockett County, Texas. The wind farm has been operating since 2019 and can generate enough electricity annually for about 177,000 homes. Oracle also recently signed a 433 MW VPPA with RWE in West Texas and issued a call for 2 GW of new renewable projects in New Mexico.
Scout Clean Energy has secured a virtual power purchase agreement with Oracle for most of the output from its 300 MW Ranchero wind facility. The Crockett County project has operated since 2019 and produces enough electricity annually for about 177,000 homes.
Oracle’s Texas clean-power purchases also include a 433 MW VPPA with RWE’s Panther Creek wind farms in Sterling, Howard and Glasscock counties. Those deals sit within Oracle’s more than 1.7 GW Texas power portfolio. In New Mexico, Oracle sought proposals for 2 GW of renewable capacity, including solar, wind and geothermal, for commissioning from 2027 to 2031.
Corporate-backed renewable deals like these may help sustain existing wind farms and spur new projects, potentially affecting Texas and New Mexico communities through construction jobs, local revenue, and changed energy supply. Electricity customers could see indirect effects if added generation influences grid costs or reliability, though outcomes are uncertain. Residents near proposed facilities may also weigh benefits against land-use, visual, or environmental concerns. The scale of Oracle’s procurement suggests large buyers could increasingly shape where and when renewable capacity is built.
