The San Diego International Film Festival will present its Night of the Stars honors on Oct. 13 at La Jolla’s Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center. Mira Sorvino receives the Virtuoso Award, given for recent performances displaying range and subtlety; she has completed the Romy and Michele sequel and will appear in That’s Amore and Prima.
Iliza Shlesinger takes the Trailblazer Award, which celebrates work that has broken conventions and widened access. Her Prime Video special A Different Animal arrives next March, and her film Chasing Summer, directed by Josephine Decker, premiered at Sundance and is among SDIFF’s added selections, alongside Elsinore and La Bola Negra. The festival runs Oct. 13–18.
The honors may raise visibility for Sorvino and Shlesinger among festival audiences and industry watchers, potentially drawing more attention to their upcoming projects. San Diego’s local film community could benefit from added press and attendance, while the festival’s selections may expose viewers to new international and independent titles. The event may also reinforce regional arts tourism, though its broader cultural effect will likely depend on coverage and audience reach.
