Data Breach at Frontline Education Affects Texas School Districts

Fort Worth and Crowley school districts in North Texas said a software vendor, Frontline Education, reported an August data security incident. The company told Fort Worth ISD the incident occurred on Aug. 14 and was addressed the following day. Employee information such as names, email addresses, home addresses and Social Security numbers may have been exposed, and affected individuals will be notified directly.
Frontline Education, which supplies administrative software to K-12 systems, alerted clients to an August cybersecurity event. Fort Worth ISD learned from the vendor that the incident happened Aug. 14 and was handled by the following day. Crowley ISD told staff that names, email and home addresses, and Social Security numbers might have been compromised.
The vendor said it contacted law enforcement and will notify affected people directly. The incident affected school systems nationwide, and Frontline did not immediately answer questions about how many districts were involved.
Employees in these districts and potentially other K-12 systems may face heightened risk of identity theft or fraud if exposed data is misused. Because school staff data can include SSNs, affected individuals could need to monitor accounts, request credit freezes, or watch for phishing. Districts may review vendor security and communication practices, while families and taxpayers could see indirect effects if administrative work is disrupted or trust in school data handling declines.
