Guided Bomb Attack Hits Zaporizhzhia Apartment Block, Residents May Be Trapped

Russian forces used guided aerial bombs to strike a five-story residential building in Zaporizhzhia early on Oct. 10. Regional officials said people could be trapped under the rubble as emergency crews worked at the scene. Fires and other damage were also reported in the city.
Zaporizhzhia’s regional military administration reported the direct strike on a five-story apartment block. Acting head Mykhailo Semikin said emergency services were at the site, and officials had not yet determined how many residents might be buried or their condition. Ivan Fedorov, co-chair of the regional defense council, also noted fires and damage in other parts of the city.
The strike followed a Friday bombardment in which six guided aerial bombs hit the city. Officials reported one fatality and 23 injuries by that evening. Homes, vehicles, and a children’s learning site were damaged; one apartment block was partly ruined, and at least 20 more were harmed. Crews were still handling that earlier destruction when Saturday’s attack happened.
Residents of the damaged block and nearby areas could face immediate risks from rubble, fires, and disrupted housing, while rescue personnel may work under dangerous conditions. Families awaiting news of missing people may experience severe distress, and repeated strikes could heighten fear and strain local emergency services, hospitals, and shelters. The wider community may also see daily routines, schooling, and access to basic services disrupted as authorities assess damage and clear debris.
