Roadside Bomb Kills Police Officer in Southeastern Iran

A provincial police official died Friday when a roadside bomb struck his vehicle near Zahedan in Sistan-Baluchistan. The province, bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan, has seen clashes between security forces and armed groups. The bombing followed a gun attack on an army vehicle and another police patrol incident in the same region.
The killed officer was a provincial police figure traveling near Zahedan, capital of Sistan-Baluchistan. The province borders Pakistan and Afghanistan and is a drug-trafficking route. It has recently seen clashes involving security forces, militants, and separatists.
On Thursday, gunmen attacked an army vehicle in the same province, killing one and wounding three. A minibus carrying personnel from a Makran coast division was hit that morning. In another case, police said a patrol was attacked; several assailants were wounded and fled, and an officer died. Last week, the Revolutionary Guards reported killing six members of a "terrorist" group in Zahedan and finding explosives.
The killing could deepen unease among residents and security personnel in Sistan-Baluchistan, where repeated attacks may disrupt travel and daily commerce. Families of officers may face added anxiety, while border communities could experience heavier security measures. Such incidents may also strain trust between local populations and authorities, though the immediate impact remains uncertain.
