Talarico Campaign Says Flu Keeps Him Sidelined
A post asks about the whereabouts of James Talarico. His campaign said he has the flu, which can be especially serious for him because he has Type 1 diabetes.
Talarico, Texas Democratic Senate nominee, has not appeared publicly since late September. His campaign attributes his absence to influenza. His last in-person public event was a Sept. 26 gas-price event; he attended a private New York City fundraiser Sept. 28 and joined a virtual Hispanic Business Council forum Sept. 30, where he said he was sick.
Because Talarico has Type 1 diabetes, flu can be more serious. Illness can raise blood sugar and reduce insulin effectiveness, sometimes causing diabetic ketoacidosis or hyperosmolar hyperglycemic nonketotic syndrome, both medical emergencies. Volunteers have reportedly worried about lost momentum, while supporters expect him at a CNN town hall next Wednesday.
The prolonged absence may affect voters' ability to assess the candidate before the CNN town hall, particularly those who rely on in-person events. It could also draw attention to how chronic illness and public duties intersect, potentially shaping discussions about health transparency and campaign scheduling. Supporters and volunteers may feel uncertainty, while opponents could question visibility. The impact likely remains limited unless the absence extends or his health worsens.
