KFC Netherlands Debuts a Pickle-Filled Gherkin Handbag

KFC Netherlands and Amsterdam pickle maker Kesbeke created the Gherkin Bag, a designer-inspired handbag filled with pickles and pickle juice. It is part of a Pickle Obsessed campaign with limited menu items including a Pickle Burger, Pickle Loaded Fries, Fried Pickles, Pickle Pepsi, and a Picanaisse sauce. The bag will be offered through a creator-led giveaway, following KFC UK's earlier Pickle Puffer jacket.
KFC Netherlands worked with Amsterdam pickle producer Kesbeke on the Gherkin Bag, a designer-inspired accessory holding real pickles and brine. Dutch creators and fashion figures have carried it in Amsterdam. It belongs to the chain’s Pickle Obsessed promotion, which also introduced a Pickle Burger, Pickle Loaded Fries, Fried Pickles, and Pickle Pepsi.
The campaign includes Picanaisse, made from Kesbeke piccalilli and Zaanse mayonnaise, served on the Pickle Burger. KFC Netherlands also plans a Pickle Delivery Bike and a video series about the Kesbeke family. A giveaway led by creators will let pickle fans try for the bag. The idea follows KFC UK’s earlier Pickle Puffer, a clear jacket filled with pickles and brine.
This novelty may draw pickle fans and curious diners to KFC Netherlands, while giving Kesbeke broader visibility. The giveaway could fuel social media sharing among creators and collectors, turning a fast-food promotion into fashion-adjacent buzz. It may also reinforce pickle’s polarizing reputation, pleasing enthusiasts but amusing or alienating those who dislike the ingredient. The campaign’s limited menu and accessories could briefly boost engagement, though its long-term cultural effect may remain modest.
