Indians Look Overseas for Cheaper iPhone 18 Pro Purchases

Indian buyers are considering overseas purchases because the iPhone 18 Pro series costs less in places like Dubai. The iPhone 18 Pro starts at about Rs 1.32 lakh in Dubai versus Rs 1.64 lakh in India, and the Pro Max can be roughly Rs 38,000 cheaper in the UAE. Tax differences, including the UAE's 5% VAT and India's tax structure, drive the gap, with Malaysia cited as the cheapest market.
Indian shoppers are weighing trips abroad to buy the iPhone 18 Pro, since Dubai pricing begins near Rs 1.32 lakh while India starts around Rs 1.64 lakh. For the Pro Max, UAE buyers may pay about Rs 38,000 less than India’s entry price.
The gap stems largely from tax regimes: the UAE applies 5% VAT, while India’s structure adds more. The devices and storage options match those sold locally. Malaysia is named the least expensive market, with Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam and the Philippines also cheaper than India. Some travelers see savings as offsetting trip costs, particularly when Dubai is already on their itinerary.
The price gap may encourage some Indian consumers to time premium phone purchases around foreign travel, especially to Dubai or other lower-cost markets. This could affect domestic electronics retailers, which may need to justify pricing or offer added value to retain buyers. Airlines, travel services, and overseas sellers might see modest gains if such shopping trips increase. For society, the trend may fuel wider discussion about tax structures and cross-border price differences, though actual shifts in buying behavior could remain limited to those who can travel.
