Netflix will release "Under Siege" ("Palacio") on Nov. 6. The eight-episode fictional drama draws on the 1985 M-19 guerrilla assault on Bogotá's Palace of Justice and the Colombian military's operation to retake it. The real events occurred across Nov. 6 and 7, 1985.
The series is helmed by Edgar Nito, Samir Oliveros, and Jayro Bustamante. Natalia Reyes leads the cast. Bustamante, a Berlin Festival winner, also has "Mountains of Fire" representing Guatemala in the Oscar race, his fourth attempt.
The premiere could bring renewed attention to a painful chapter in Colombia's past, reaching domestic viewers with personal or family connections and international audiences unfamiliar with the events. Dramatizing such material may prompt public discussion about historical memory, media representation, and how societies process political violence. It could also affect descendants, veterans, and victims' communities by shaping how younger viewers encounter the episode, though fictional treatment may invite debate over accuracy and responsibility.
