Super PAC Corrects Ad That Used Wrong Native American Politician

No Going Back PAC aired an ad attacking Jonathan Nez, the Democratic nominee in Arizona’s 2nd Congressional District, but it twice showed photos of Myron Lizer instead. The group said the ad was corrected shortly after it aired, and AdImpact now lists a version with Nez’s photos. The spot criticizes Nez on affordability and fraud allegations.
The spot, a 30-second commercial, started Friday and was scheduled to run through Tuesday. It twice displayed Myron Lizer, who served as Republican vice president of the Navajo Nation when Jonathan Nez was president. Nez, now the Democratic nominee in Arizona’s 2nd Congressional District, faces Republican Rep. Eli Crane.
No Going Back PAC, described as Trump-aligned, planned to spend over $650,000 on the ad, per AdImpact. A spokesperson said it was fixed soon after airing, and AdImpact now lists a version using Nez’s images. The ad criticizes Nez over affordability and fraud claims. Lizer did not comment.
The mix-up may distract from policy debate in AZ-02, potentially affecting Native American voters who see inaccurate representation. It could reinforce concerns about outside PAC spending and ad accuracy, possibly shaping trust in campaign messaging. Nez may use it to argue opponents are careless, while the PAC's correction may limit lasting damage. Voters in the competitive district could weigh competence and respect alongside affordability and fraud claims.
