Mike Flanagan says he'd love to direct a new Jaws or Jurassic movie

During a Reddit AMA, Mike Flanagan said he would like to make a new Jaws movie and believes the sequels left room for improvement. He also floated a Jurassic film, saying he would aim for genuine dinosaur horror. Flanagan was promoting his Exorcist movie Martyrs and his Carrie series.

EXPANDED:

During a Friday Reddit AMA tied to his Exorcist film Martyrs and Prime Video's Carrie series, Mike Flanagan said he once expected to avoid franchises and sequels. He now enjoys revisiting worlds he admires and adding his own perspective. He named Jaws as a dream project, noting the original is untouchable but the follow-ups could be improved. He also said a Jurassic film could be fun if he made it genuinely frightening, a true dinosaur horror movie.

The Jaws series has stayed culturally memorable despite weak later entries; Hollywood largely stopped after 1987's Jaws: The Revenge. Exorcist films, by contrast, have continued roughly once a decade. Universal has recently allowed directors more latitude with Jurassic, including the horror-leaning Jurassic World: Rebirth. Flanagan also mentioned an original idea, Spirit in the Sky, which he called a possible career-defining artistic statement.
