Adult Swim revealed at New York Comic-Con that the Peabody-winning animated show will return to HBO Max on January 24, 2027, at 11 p.m. Joe Bennett and Steve Hely created it; Mike Judge and Greg Daniels served as executive producers. Its first season debuted on Adult Swim nearly two years earlier.
The plot centers on Marshall, voiced by Dave King, a fungi researcher opposed to corporate power. He finds a mushroom with broad healing properties, reunites with former crush Frances, an assistant to a drug-company executive, and both get pulled into a conspiracy involving criminals, business interests, and federal authorities. The series has earned Annie Awards and praise from critics.
The renewal could strengthen HBO Max’s appeal to adult-animation viewers and give Adult Swim another high-profile title. Fans of serialized conspiracy stories may return or subscribe, while the show’s health-and-corporate themes might spark informal discussion about medical trust and institutional power. Its awards pedigree may also draw critical attention, though its societal reach may remain cultural rather than direct.
