Bitcoin Slides as Realized Profits Near 2026 Peak

Bitcoin recorded about $1.03 billion in realized profits in a single day, the second-largest daily amount of 2026, according to Santiment. The selling came after a rally to $87,000 and a retreat toward $81,000, with BTC down 5% for the week. Long liquidations reached roughly $520 million, adding pressure on bullish positions.
Santiment's on-chain measure of realized profit and loss captures gains or losses investors lock in when coins move on-chain. A sharp rise points to holders selling into gains, offering a view of selling pressure that price charts alone may miss. This latest $1.03 billion daily total was just below 2026's $1.04 billion peak, per the firm.
The move followed BTC's push to $87,000 and its pullback toward $81,000. Long liquidations near $520 million and more than $702 million in weekly U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF outflows added to the cooling backdrop after late-September inflows.
Retail traders and leveraged investors may feel the immediate effects, as profit-taking and liquidations can amplify short-term losses. ETF investors and crypto-related businesses could see sentiment shift if outflows continue. For broader society, sharper crypto swings may influence risk appetite and attention to digital assets, though any spillover to conventional finance would likely depend on how long the pullback lasts.
