Sands China and NBA Cares Host Macao Community Meal Event

Sands China and NBA Cares held a Health and Wellness Day at Happy Kitchen in Macao, where former NBA players Stephon Marbury and Cuttino Mobley helped distribute 200 boxed lunches. The broader meal initiative is set to benefit 1,500 individuals. Happy Kitchen, a social enterprise backed by Sands China, provides vocational training and employment support for people with disabilities, those in mental health recovery, and youth with special educational needs.
The event took place on World Mental Health Day as the fourth activity of the NBA Cares x Sands Cares Community Impact Week 2026, which ran Oct. 7–11. A plaque ceremony launched Happy Kitchen’s new service. Marbury, a two-time NBA All-Star, and Mobley worked alongside Las Vegas Sands and Sands China executives, Sands Cares Ambassadors, and Fuhong members.
Fuhong says over 30 participants have trained in food preparation, portioning, packing, and customer service. The social enterprise, backed by Sands China, serves about 250 meals daily. The current effort is expected to reach 1,500 people, while 200 meal boxes were packed and given out during the event.
This collaboration may draw attention to employment pathways for people with disabilities, those recovering from mental health challenges, and youth with special educational needs. By linking a high-profile basketball initiative with a local social enterprise, it could strengthen volunteer engagement and community meal access in Macao. For trainees, practical food-service experience may improve confidence and job readiness; for recipients, the meals and vouchers may offer short-term relief and social connection. However, long-term impact would depend on sustained funding, training quality, and job placement opportunities.
