Paramount+ announced at New York Comic Con that 'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' will return for its second season in March 2027. Bill Nighy and Rosemarie DeWitt will guest star as, respectively, Nahla's estranged father and Tarima's mother, the first lady of Betazed. The panel also included a conversation between William Shatner and Ben Stiller and a new season-two clip.

Expanded Detail

Paramount+ revealed the March 2027 return during its New York Comic Con Star Trek panel. Co-showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau appeared with cast members Holly Hunter, Sandro Rosta, Bella Shepard, Karim Diané, and Robert Picardo, and introduced a season-two preview.

Season two follows cadets on the USS Athena in their second year. Their assumptions about command, camaraderie, love, and ethics face tests through rivalries, diplomatic talks, and a campus-wide competition. An enigmatic newcomer among the cadets raises questions with effects extending past lessons.

Context

The news could strengthen engagement among Star Trek fans and Paramount+ subscribers, while the guest casting may attract viewers familiar with Bill Nighy and Rosemarie DeWitt. The panel’s mix of nostalgia, new footage, and cast discussion may shape online conversation around the franchise’s direction. If the season delivers on its themes, it could influence how younger audiences discuss leadership, friendship, and moral choices in speculative fiction.
