Coinbase survey tracks rising UK interest in crypto ownership

Coinbase-commissioned research indicates cryptocurrency interest and ownership have increased in the UK over the past six months. The survey found more UK respondents had recently owned or previously owned crypto, with Bitcoin and Ethereum the most commonly held assets. Many existing and prospective investors reportedly plan to increase or diversify their holdings in the coming year.
A Coinbase-backed survey, conducted quarterly by Qualtrics, found that UK respondents who had recently held or once held crypto rose by more than a third over six months. Bitcoin and Ethereum were the most commonly reported holdings, at 76% and 53%.
Many current and prospective investors said they intended to add to or broaden their crypto positions in the next year. The survey also compared understanding of crypto with traditional assets, finding a small gap in confidence between the two.
Greater UK interest in crypto could affect retail investors, savers, and payment users, especially younger or digitally active groups. If adoption keeps rising, more households may face new volatility, security, and literacy challenges, while businesses could see wider demand for crypto-related services. Regulators and consumer advisers may need to respond, but the survey alone cannot show lasting behavioral change or broader economic effects.
