Mamdani Calls for Release of Immigrant Shot by ICE in New York
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani demanded the immediate release of Oscar Belgal, a Dominican national whom DHS identifies as a gang member, after an ICE agent shot and wounded him during an arrest attempt. Belgal had outstanding warrants and allegedly tried to flee; his five-year-old son was in the vehicle. Mamdani criticized ICE as rotten, while Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin noted Belgal knew his son was in the car.
