Iram Parveen Bilal’s award-winning Pakistani thriller “Wakhri” has secured international distribution. Its theatrical and broadcast rollout begins this fall in France, the U.K. and Ireland, Australia, and Brazil, with further markets expected in the months ahead.
In France, Salon Indien will bring the film to cinemas in October. The traveling film society highlights South Asian women filmmakers. Curatorial platform Contre-courants and François-Xavier Durandy created the initiative, which plans screenings at venues across the country.
The wider availability of “Wakhri” may give audiences in France, the U.K. and Ireland, Australia, and Brazil access to a Pakistani thriller. It could raise visibility for South Asian women filmmakers through Salon Indien’s programming, potentially expanding distribution interest in Pakistani cinema. Diaspora viewers and arthouse audiences may find new opportunities to engage with stories from Pakistan, though actual impact will depend on reach and reception.
