Hong Kong finance chief sets out four focus areas for upcoming APEC finance ministers’ meeting

Hong Kong Financial Secretary Paul Chan said the APEC finance ministers’ meeting will prioritize fiscal measures aimed at improving people’s livelihoods, funding for digital infrastructure, broader access to financial services, and developing young financial talent. He wrote in his weekly blog that these areas play to Hong Kong’s strengths and its role as an international financial centre. About 500 guests from APEC’s 21 member economies are expected at the October 20–21 event, the first time Hong Kong will host it.
Hong Kong’s financial secretary, Paul Chan Mo-po, set out the meeting’s four themes in his Sunday blog. They are fiscal policies that help livelihoods, financing for digital infrastructure, wider financial-service access, and nurturing young financial talent.
The event is scheduled for October 20–21 at the Wan Chai Convention and Exhibition Centre. Roughly 500 guests, including finance ministers and senior representatives from APEC’s 21 economies, are expected. Hong Kong will host the annual gathering for the first time.
The meeting could raise Hong Kong’s international profile and bring short-term activity for hotels, venues and related services. Discussions on livelihood-focused fiscal policy, digital infrastructure, inclusive finance and youth talent may shape expectations among residents, small businesses and young professionals about future access to financial services and training. APEC delegates and local financial firms could also gain networking opportunities, though concrete outcomes may depend on follow-up implementation by member economies.
