Text-Message AI Agents Worth Knowing

TechCrunch compiled a list of notable AI agents that operate through text messaging instead of separate apps. These agents can remember context, connect to existing services, and handle tasks such as scheduling, email, reservations, and reminders. Examples include Caddy, Comma, and Fambot, while Instinct is noted as a high-profile player after a large funding round.
Several messaging-based assistants now handle everyday coordination. Caddy works through iMessage and RCS, linking calendars and conversations to surface actions; it entered public beta in April 2026. Comma is open source and free to start, spans browsers, computers, and files, and can be reached via Signal, Telegram, or WeChat.
Fambot targets household logistics, sending nightly next-day summaries by SMS and connecting to Gmail, Google Calendar, Outlook, and WhatsApp. It began beta in September 2026 with $3.5 million pre-seed. Folk uses iMessage, WhatsApp, and Telegram, runs on a private cloud computer, and offers a $8.33 monthly Pro tier. Instinct raised $1 billion at a $10 billion valuation.
Messaging-first agents may lower the effort needed to manage schedules, errands, and household logistics, potentially helping busy families, professionals, and people juggling many services. Because they can access calendars, email, and chats, their spread could also raise privacy and trust questions, especially if users share sensitive context. Their impact may depend on how clearly they request approval, explain actions, and let people control connected accounts.
