UK Defense Chief Condemns Houthi Strike on Riyadh Airport as Dangerous and Contemptible

UK Defense Minister Wes Streeting condemned the deadly Houthi attack on Riyadh's airport as a dangerous escalation and contemptible. He said the Houthis are increasingly targeting civilian sites in Saudi Arabia. Streeting noted that the UK provides Saudi Arabia with air defenses and air-to-air refueling support.
UK Defense Minister Wes Streeting responded on Sunday to a deadly Houthi assault a day earlier on Riyadh’s airport. In an interview with Sky News, he called the incident an alarming intensification and said it fit a growing pattern of Houthi actions aimed at civilian locations in Saudi Arabia.
He described such attacks as morally reprehensible and cited them as a reason Britain supplies Saudi Arabia with air-defense assistance and aerial refueling support. Streeting also said he wants the conflict to conclude and argued that striking civilian targets cannot be justified.
The attack could heighten concerns among civilians in Saudi Arabia, especially travelers and airport workers, about safety at public sites. It may also intensify scrutiny in the UK of British military support to Saudi Arabia, potentially affecting public debate and parliamentary attention. Broader regional tensions could make diplomatic de-escalation more difficult, with possible consequences for communities already exposed to conflict.
