Mini’s Countryman Untamed Edition Gets a Rugged Test in Nevada

Mini has introduced a more capable, adventure-focused version of its largest SUV, the Countryman Untamed Edition. The model adds suspension travel, design updates, and outdoor-oriented accessories such as an Autohome roof tent. Wallpaper tested it around Lake Tahoe and Nevada, where its durable interior materials and CMF choices were a focus.
Mini’s Countryman Untamed Edition is the largest model in the brand’s range, now positioned for outdoor-focused buyers. It gains 15mm more suspension travel, revised design elements, and accessories including an Autohome roof tent.
Mini design chief Holger Hampf cites Paul Smith’s Mini Strip concept and Paul Smith Edition, plus earlier concepts like the 2011 DSQUARED² Red Mudder and 2009 Beachcomber, as influences. The interior emphasizes durable, textured materials and CMF choices. The original Mini’s 1960s Monte Carlo Rally wins also inform its adventurous character.
This variant may appeal to affluent, outdoor-oriented drivers seeking a compact SUV with lifestyle accessories. It could nudge other automakers toward durable, tactile interiors and stronger CMF storytelling, shaping material expectations. Camping and overlanding gear makers may gain visibility through factory-supported items like roof tents. Still, its broader influence may remain limited, as adventure-themed editions often serve a niche audience rather than transforming mainstream vehicle design.
