Pence Criticizes Trump Over Russian Fuel Sanctions Relief

Former Vice President Mike Pence criticized President Donald Trump’s decision to remove sanctions on Russian fuel, calling it a betrayal of the late Senator Lindsey Graham’s work. Pence said the move aids Vladimir Putin’s war effort while Ukraine is fighting for survival. He urged Trump to reverse the deal, impose tough sanctions on buyers of Russian energy, and support Ukraine militarily.
Mike Pence posted on X to challenge President Donald Trump’s choice to roll back penalties tied to Russian energy. Pence linked that move to the work of the late Senator Lindsey Graham, who had sought tougher measures. Pence also recalled visiting Ukraine last month, saying its forces had halted Russia’s military and used drones to strike far inside Russian territory.
Pence contended that loosening such penalties would assist Vladimir Putin’s war effort while Ukraine battles for survival. He called on Trump to undo the arrangement, punish countries that buy Russian energy, and cooperate with allies to give Ukraine sufficient military backing to repel the invasion.
This dispute may intensify public debate over U.S. sanctions policy and Ukraine aid. American voters, lawmakers, and allied governments could see it as a test of Washington’s reliability. Ukrainian civilians and soldiers may be affected if policy shifts alter energy revenues or military assistance. Russian officials might interpret any easing as a signal, while U.S. businesses and energy markets could face uncertainty.
