Egyptian Flight Attendant Killed in Riyadh Airport Assault

Azza Ramzy Muhammad Hassan Shaaban, a 28-year-old Egyptian flight attendant, was killed in an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, according to Al Arabiya. Her family in Beheira Governorate had expected her home for a holiday and is now awaiting the return of her remains. Egyptian diplomatic missions in Riyadh are coordinating repatriation, while Saudi aviation authorities reported 12 dead and 309 injured.
Shaaban, 28, worked as a flight attendant after earning a law degree, according to her cousin Ahmed Labib. She had told relatives that her next trip would be her last before leaving aviation and returning permanently to Al-Atf in Beheira Governorate. Her family had been preparing for a holiday visit when they learned she died in the Riyadh airport attack.
Relatives delayed telling her father because of his fragile health, and he was informed only hours before public statements. Egyptian diplomatic offices in Riyadh worked with the family on returning her body and tracked injured Egyptian nationals. Saudi aviation officials counted 12 fatalities and 309 injuries.
The death may deepen grief among Egypt’s aviation and Beheira communities, especially relatives who had anticipated Shaaban’s return. Consular and airport staff could face added pressure as repatriation and injury monitoring continue. For travelers and diaspora families, the attack may heighten concerns about civilian safety at regional airports, while the casualty toll could intensify public calls for stronger protection—though responses will vary.
