BSNL Gears Up for 5G After Indigenous 4G Network Advances

BSNL is moving toward 5G deployment after its locally developed 4G network produced the results it expected. The operator will keep widening 4G coverage while upgrading customer support, cybersecurity, and future network systems. Its plans include AI-based security, improvements to the Vaani chatbot, a partnership with Saptang Labs, Bharat Sandesh, and work with Fujitsu Japan on an all-photonics network.
BSNL is positioning 5G as its next step after its homegrown 4G rollout met internal expectations, according to a senior official cited in a report. The state-run carrier intends to keep broadening 4G coverage nationwide while laying groundwork for next-generation mobile services.
Alongside network growth, BSNL is upgrading Vaani with location-aware network updates and voice-based complaint filing. It has teamed with Saptang Labs for AI/ML-driven security, introduced Bharat Sandesh for two-way government-citizen communication, and plans an all-photonics network with Fujitsu Japan using existing dark fibre.
If BSNL's 5G plans progress, consumers in underserved areas may gain broader mobile access, while businesses and public agencies could benefit from improved connectivity. Enhanced Vaani and Bharat Sandesh may make it easier for citizens to report issues and receive government information. AI-based security could help protect users from network threats, though actual benefits depend on execution, coverage, and affordability.
