Morocco Issues Orange Storm Warning for 26 Provinces

Morocco's weather service issued an orange storm alert for 26 provinces on Sunday, 11 October, from 13:00 to 23:00. Forecasts call for 25 to 40 mm of rain, hail and strong gusts across areas including Fez, Meknes, Ifrane and Beni Mellal. Five flood-damaged roads remain closed, including two on the Imlil route, and no casualty or damage estimates have been published.
Morocco’s state weather agency, the DGM, places orange below only red on its four-tier warning scale. For the alert hours, it expects 25–40 mm of rainfall, hail and powerful gusts in provinces that include Fez, Meknes, Ifrane and Beni Mellal.
The warning follows a week of sudden flooding across southern regions and the High Atlas. Officials recorded 19 severed road segments between 6 and 10 October; 14 had reopened by Saturday evening, spanning national, regional and provincial routes. Five stayed blocked without an available local alternative, including two Al Haouz roads serving Asni and Imlil.
The alert could disrupt travel and daily routines in inland provinces, especially for people in flood-affected mountain areas where some routes remain shut. Visitors heading to the Atlas or Imlil may need to delay trips or choose safer roads, while emergency and road crews could face continued pressure. Because no casualty or damage figures have been released, the immediate human and economic toll remains unclear.
