Resident Evil’s fourth weekend added $62.7M worldwide, pushing its global total to $320.2M. That makes it Zach Cregger’s biggest release, exceeding Weapons, which earned $270M worldwide and won an Oscar.
China supplied $40.6M, the strongest horror debut there in two years, while Japan opened with $3.6M. Other market totals include the UK at $17.0M, Mexico at $11.8M, Australia and France at $8.5M each, Germany at $7.3M, and Spain at $7.1M. Other Mommy passed $45M, and Social Reckoning struggled.
The strong performance of a horror franchise in China and other markets may encourage studios to invest more in genre films with global appeal. Audiences who favor horror could see more such releases, while theater owners in markets like China, Japan, and Europe may benefit from higher attendance. The contrast with weaker openings could also shape how distributors schedule and market future titles, though one weekend’s results may not predict long-term industry shifts.
