Anbernic’s RG DDS Handheld Pairs Dual Screens With Snapdragon G2 Gen 2

Anbernic has announced the RG DDS, a clamshell dual-screen handheld inspired by the Nintendo New 3DS. It uses a Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 processor and Adreno A22 GPU, with a 4.7-inch 1200×720 top screen and a 4-inch 960×720 bottom screen. The device adds a retractable stylus, full-size right analog stick, active cooling, stereo speakers, and a 6,000mAh battery for retro and 3DS emulation.
Anbernic’s RG DDS follows the RG DS and RG DS Plus, moving the clamshell dual-screen line to Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 with Adreno A22 graphics. Its two custom IPS panels measure 4.7 inches (1200×720, 5:3) and 4 inches (960×720, 4:3), both rated 300 PPI and 500 nits. That setup may allow 3DS titles to use 3× integer scaling.
The hardware list includes a retractable mesh-tip stylus, a full-size right analog stick, recessed thumbsticks, active cooling, front stereo speakers, a Z-axis linear vibration motor, and a 6,000mAh battery. Color choices are black, blue, and white. An AI button is present, but its functions remain unclear; RAM, price, and release date are unconfirmed.
The RG DDS could appeal to retro handheld fans and people revisiting DS and 3DS libraries, especially those who value dual-screen play without original hardware. If priced competitively, it may push rivals like Retroid and AYN toward stronger chips, sharper panels, or better stylus support. Its success may also depend on emulator compatibility, software polish, and whether buyers see dual-screen convenience as worth the likely premium. Broader impact is likely limited to gaming enthusiasts rather than mainstream gadget users.
