Eoin Colfer to Executive Produce Animated 'Artemis Fowl' for Disney Channel and Disney+

Disney Channel and Disney+ have ordered an animated series based on Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl books. Colfer revealed the project at New York Comic-Con and will serve as an executive producer alongside Ben Juwono and Colleen Evanson. The story centers on a 13-year-old genius who discovers a high-tech fairy underworld and plots to capture a fairy to save his mother.
Eoin Colfer revealed the project at New York Comic-Con during a panel marking 25 years of Artemis Fowl. Disney Channel and Disney+ have ordered the animated adaptation, with Colfer executive producing alongside Ben Juwono and Colleen Evanson.
The source books began in 2001 and center on a 13-year-old prodigy who finds a hidden fairy civilization equipped with advanced weapons and technology. He schemes to abduct one fairy and take its magic, hoping to cure his ill mother and protect his family. Disney Kids & Family president Ayo Davis said the series aims to reach new viewers while respecting longtime readers.
The animated series could introduce Artemis Fowl to younger viewers and families who use Disney Channel or Disney+, while giving longtime readers a new way to revisit the books. It may renew interest in Colfer’s franchise and similar fantasy adventures, potentially benefiting booksellers, libraries, and streaming engagement. If handled well, it could also show how legacy properties can be adapted for modern audiences without relying solely on live action.
