Gran Turismo 7 Sales Keep Growing Ahead of Spec 4 Update

Gran Turismo 7 is still selling strongly nearly five years after launch, according to series creator Kazunori Yamauchi. He said the ongoing growth was not anticipated and has led Polyphony Digital to keep adding content and modes. The first part of the Spec 4 update will bring six cars and the Sportsland Sugo circuit, with more content due in December.
Gran Turismo 7 is approaching its fifth anniversary and remains a popular first-party PS5 title. Series creator Kazunori Yamauchi said sales continue to be strong, a result Polyphony Digital did not initially foresee. That sustained audience has encouraged the studio to keep supporting the racer with extra content and modes.
The Spec 4 update’s first phase arrives soon, adding six cars and the Sportsland Sugo track. A second wave of content is planned for December. Notably, the game has not been part of PS Plus, so its growth has come through premium purchases, though it is sometimes discounted on the PS Store.
The continued sales and updates could affect racing fans, PlayStation owners, and developers. It may show that long-term support can keep a sim racer relevant, potentially encouraging other studios to invest in post-launch content. For players, Spec 4 may offer reasons to return or stay engaged. It could also influence how Sony views its racing franchise and live-service strategy, though broader industry effects remain uncertain.
