Bumper Bout turns pinball into a two-player duel

Bumper Bout, a competitive two-player pinball game, currently has a demo available on Steam. In matches, each player controls their own side of the screen but can launch balls into the opponent's area, and losing balls drains hearts until someone loses five. Points earned from bumpers and targets unlock attack balls and character ultimates, while stages include a space board and a foosball table.
Bumper Bout appeared at PAX Australia, where it closed out the Omegathon main-stage tournament. Its pitch framed pinball around elimination: every ball lost costs a heart, and five lost hearts ends a round. Players share a screen but operate separate halves, sending balls across to disrupt each other.
Scoring on bumpers and targets builds toward attack balls and, at four stored charges, character ultimates such as a gravity well or pirate bombs. Planned content includes arcade and survival singleplayer modes, online multiplayer, and an October 29 release; a Steam demo is already available.
Competitive local multiplayer like Bumper Bout may strengthen social play in arcades, conventions, and homes, giving friends a shared screen activity. Its accessible pinball hook could draw players who usually avoid competitive games, while streamers and tournament organizers may find a compact duel format to showcase. If online multiplayer arrives, it could extend that social dynamic beyond in-person events, though its lasting impact depends on whether the demo's convention appeal translates to regular players.
